CHENNAI: A woman farmer died after she was struck by lightning at Thiroor near Tiruvallur on Monday evening. Police said the woman met with the fate when she was returning home from work.
The deceased woman was identified as B Komala, 32, a resident of Thiroor. Police said Komala and her husband Bharathwaj had gone to their farmland to work there.
As dark clouds gathered followed by a sudden downpour, Bharathwaj rushed back home and his wife Komala followed him.
Suddenly, lightning hit Komala. She screamed and collapsed to the ground. Her husband and a few other villagers rushed to the place and found her lying dead with a charred body.
On receiving this information, a police team from the Sevvapet police station rushed to the place and they sent her body to the government hospital in Tiruvallur for autopsy. Sevvapet police has registered a case under Section 174 (unnatural death) of CrPC and further investigations are on.
