3 held in connection with two robberies; 1 injured during escape attempt
Chennai: Three men were arrested in connection with two separate robbery cases reported in MKB Nagar and Vyasarpadi last week. One of the suspects broke his hand while attempting to escape from police.
In the first incident, Sankar, 47, of Soozhpunal Karai in Kodungaiyur, was walking on the North Avenue Road in Vyasarpadi on Jan 1 when he was confronted by a man who robbed him of his cash and a mobile phone.
Acting on Sankar's complaint, MKB Nagar inspector of police Bensam analysed CCTV footage and identified the suspect as Vimalraj alias ‘Saapadu' Vimalraj, 24, of Erikarai in Vyasarpadi.
Police tracked Vimalraj to a hideout. He attempted to escape by scaling a wall, only to fall and fracture his hand. He was arrested and taken to Government Stanley Hospital before being booked in the robbery case.
In a separate incident in Vyasarpadi, Karthik, 22, and Praveenkanth alias Muthu, 22, both residents of Pallar Street, threatened vegetable vendor Thanga Mariappan, 36, at knifepoint. They assaulted him and robbed him of 1,000. Mariappan sustained injuries and was admitted to Government Stanley Hospital. Based on his complaint, police arrested Karthik and Muthu. They have been remanded in judicial custody.
