CHENNAI: Around 3.5 crore voters in
Tamil Nadu have given their details under the National Electoral Roll Purification and Authentication Programme (NERPAP).
The
Election Commission has launched the drive in collaboration with C-DAC under the mission mode project for authenticating, purifying and linking Aadhaar with the electoral roll.
The objective of the drive is to weed out electoral roll duplicates and to make the electoral roll error free.
The NERPAP, launched on March 3, was being implemented in a very successful manner, said chief electoral officer
Sandeep Saxena in a press release.
“So far two special camps for NERPAP have been conducted in the state. Around 20 lakh electors participated in the second camp conducted on April 26. The electors furnished their Aadhaar details along with the contact information and verified the correctness of their information on the electoral roll,” said Saxena.
Out of 5.62 crore electors in Tamil Nadu, details of about 3.5 crore electors have been collected under the NERPAP.
“Feeding of data is simultaneously being done in a very systematic manner and so far 2.17 crore electors’ data have been uploaded,” he said.
The third special camp would be conducted on May 10. Electors who have yet to give their particulars of Aadhaar and contact address and have yet to verify the correctness of their details on the electoral roll can share the information with the booth level officers (BLOs) or on the website www.nvsp.in.
