Two cops go at each other on road over patrol, suspended

CHENNAI: Two police personnel were placed under suspension for fighting violently on the road at Mamallapuram over a

patrol

vehicle. One of the

policemen

attacked the other with a knife. The injured has been admitted to a private hospital.


After the issue was brought to his knowledge, Kancheepuram district superintendent of police Santhosh Haidmeni ordered the personnel to be suspended immediately. He also ordered for a departmental inquiry into the issue and asked the report to be submitted within 15 days.

Police said Maraimalaiyan, who worked as a head

constable

at the Mamallapuram police DSP office, was at the coastal security group check post on East Coast Road (ECR) on Saturday. Maraimalaiyan tried to leave the place in a patrol vehicle parked nearby, when Boobalan, Mamallapuram police grade- I constable, objected to it.

Boobalan and Maraimalaiyan picked up quarrel over it. Witnesses told police that Maraimalaiyan claimed he was senior to Boobalan and had all rights to take the vehicle whenever he chose to. Following an heated argument, Maraimalaiyan took a small pen knife and stabbed Boobalan on the face and fled. Boobalan sustained severe injuries and began bleeding profusely. A team from the Mamallapuram police station took Boobalan to a hospital in Nellikuppam.
