2 arrested for raping mentally challenged girl in Chennai

NEW DELHI: Two people have been arrested, and the police are searching for at least seven more suspects in connection with the gang rape of a college girl with mental disabilities in Chennai.

The arrests were made on Saturday, with the case being registered at the Chennai All-Women Police Station.

The victim, who studies at a Chennai private college and has mental disabilities, confided in her father about the incident. She identified two perpetrators - Naresh and Suresh - from Tiruvallur district, according to a Chennai Police official.

Police reports indicate the victim experienced physical ailments, including severe stomach pain, following the assault. The two identified suspects allegedly took her to a lodge on Wall Tax Road in Chennai where they repeatedly assaulted her.

The victim's father filed a report at the Ayanavaram Police Station after learning of the incident. Initial investigations revealed that a mutual college friend introduced the victim to the accused last year. Further enquiries uncovered that additional assaults were committed by individuals she met through social media.

Law enforcement has identified the involved parties and continues their investigation to arrest the remaining suspects. The father's complaint was prompted after the victim received messages from unknown individuals on her mobile phone.

Authorities have registered charges under eight sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and one section of the Information Technology Act. Four dedicated teams are working to apprehend the remaining suspects.
