109 shops on Chennai beaches fined for using banned plastic items

CHENNAI: The Greater Chennai Corporation has collected a total fine of Rs 16,500 from 109 vendors for using banned plastic items on Besant Nagar, Thiruvanmiyur and Marina beaches.


According to a statement, the corporation inspected close to 1,500 shops on Monday on all three beaches. It will be conducting such inspections every day.

Corporation commissioner Gagandeep Singh Bedi said, “I am inspecting the beaches and streamlining the cleanliness issues, better lighting and other issues.”
