10 injured as buses collide on Pamban Road Bridge
MADURAI: Around 10 people suffered injuries when two buses collided on the Pamban Road Bridge in Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday morning. The injured were taken to hospital.
The vehicles involved in the accident are a private bus going to Rameswaram from Chennai and a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus from Rameswaram to Madurai. The accident happened around 7am.
Pamban villagers said a major disaster was averted as the vehicles had not fallen into the sea though the private bus had rammed the parapet of the bridge after colliding with the TNSTC bus.
“If any of the buses had plunged into the sea, it would have been disastrous. There are incident of buses stopping on the bridge as tourists want to see the rail bridge. We have been urging the police and the district administration to stop tourists stopping their buses on the bridge. The authorities act after an accident, but they don’t come out with a permanent solution,” said Pamban panchayat president Akila Patrick.

So, the drivers of the vehicles move on the Bridges, Flyovers, Over Bridges, Subways, without knowing that they are driving their vehicle on a superstructure and have to be extra cautious till they hit the surface. Hope at least now onwards the authorities swing into action to ensure that all kinds of vehicles moving on the Bridges, Flyovers, Over Bridges, Subways are not exceeding Speed Limits prescribed for the safety of all road users , as well as to the superstructures thereon.
