1.54 cr applications received under women dole scheme

Chennai: The state government has received 1.54 crore applications from women for its monthly 1,000 cash dole scheme, chief minister M K Stalin said on Tuesday, adding that the plan to launch it on September 15 is on track .“We have already compiled income, property and electricity consumption details from these applicants, and our aim is to identify eligible women and make them beneficiaries of this scheme,” Stalin said, addressing virtually a meeting with the state's Economic Advisory Council (EAC) and state finance ministry officials.Under the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam will see the state provide 1,000 per month to eligible women heads of household with an aim to raise their quality of living.“We have been consulting and framing our schemes as per instructions of this elite panel of economic advisors. I believe all the measures announced by us will help improve job prospects for the state's youth,” he added. The state's economic advisory council members include Esther Duflo, Raghuram Rajan, former chief economic adviser Arvind Subramanian, development economist Jean Drèze and former union finance secretary S. Narayan. State finance minister Thangam Thennarasu also participated in the meeting.
