Zirakpur gets 2 tow vans to end illegal parking on the roadsides
Mohali: After Zirakpur municipal council and police were slammed for being unable to check illegal parking on the roadside of the national highway, the newly appointed traffic in-charge Manful Singh said they have now got two
Singh said, “Earlier we had no tow vehicles, which made it almost impossible for us to seize the vehicles parked illegally on the road side but now for the first time we have got two tow vans for the better implementation of traffic regulations. We issued 785 challans on Saturday.”
Singh added, “The major problematic area is under the Zirakpur flyover where a number of vehicles lead to traffic jams and serious safety issues on the national highway and earlier people used to just park their vehicles on the both sides of national highway for an entire day.”
Mohali deputy commissioner Gurpreet Kaur Sapra claims that CCTV cameras have been installed on the Zirakpur flyover, and now they are planning to install the same on the road beneath the flyover to keep an eye on traffic violators as well as on activities of miscreants.
Zirakpur municipal council has been trying to ensure that handcarts are removed from the right side of the national highway and have been considering demarcating a place for the same at a safe distance from the road.
Amidst the festival rush, specifically in and around market areas, traffic cops have been permanently deployed from morning to late evening to ensure that no vehicles are illegally parked causing chaos on the highway. They are also to ensure that provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act are being followed.
Local residents claimed witnessing such progress made by the traffic police after a long while. They have welcomed the efforts of the local traffic police.
