CHANDIGARH: After receiving a lukewarm response to online fee submission facility provided to Panjab University students for the past two years, authorities have now decided to provide zero balance accounts in State Bank of India (
SBI) to the pupils to encourage the move.
Earlier, the students often made excuses that they did not have a bank account or were unable to maintain the minimum balance.
In the past two years, not even 2% of the students availed the facility.
Official sources said the provision of zero balance SBI kits to students might help promote the facility.
The move would help the pupils deposit fees using the Internet, across the country.
Officials said the scheme would be launched from the next session and be provided to those opting for professional courses. University Business School, University Institute of Engineering and Technology, University Institute of Legal Studies, University Institute of Applied Management and Science and Chemical Engineering department would be covered by the scheme. Officials said that this would help ease chaos at fee counters.
