Youths with swords clash in Ph 3B2 market, few detained

MOHALI: Two groups armed with sharp-edged weapons clashed in Phase 3B2 market in full public view on Saturday evening.

Brandishing swords, the youths chased each other as commuters watched in shock.

Cops said most of the accused were senior secondary class students. Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Sandeep Garg on Sunday evening said they have rounded up 11 accused. Garg said timely action by the police thwarted bloodshed as the groups were trying to settle a score.

However, residents of phase IV, V, 3B1, 3B2 frequently visiting the market have alleged this was not the first incident of hooliganism in the market. Narinder Singh of Phase IV said, "We were scared to see youngsters clashing with swords. It was a horrifying scene." Jyoti Sharma, a local resident, said, "We shifted from Zirakpur owing to hooliganism, but the situation is similar here too. I took shelter in a nearby shop."
