Yoga treatment search on internet yields fraudster
Panchkula: A woman lost Rs 54,500 in an online fraud after she dialled a number thrown up first for an internet search of Patanjali Yogagram Trust for booking an appointment for treatment of recurring pain in the legs of her father-in-law.Neha Khattar Thigra said she keyed in Patanjali Yogagram Trust contact number on Google. Believing the top search result as the official number, the Sector 12 resident dialled it and asked for treatment details. The person on the other side of the call demanded medical documents and Aadhaar card details. He offered her a package for Rs 36,000 after giving 10% discount, sending bank account details for transferring the payment. Neha said when she made the deposit, the accused called her up and sought Rs 18,500 as security which, he promised, would be refunded. Neha alleged the accused then again called her up and claimed he had accidentally charged her Rs 20,000 less. Becoming suspicious, Neha refused to pay any more fee and demanded her money back. She said the accused promised the money would be reflected back in her bank account within 24 hours. When nothing happened and the accused ignored her repeated calls, Neha approached the police. A case was registered under different Sections of Indian Penal Code.
