This means, if you wrongly parked the vehicle, and the traffic cops tow away your vehicle, then you would end up paying maximum fine in the country to get your vehicle. In comparison in Mumbai, the traffic police charges Rs 100 for two wheelers, Rs 200 for the cars, jeeps and vans as the towing charges, whereas the commercial heavy vehicles such as trucks and buses they have set Rs 600 as charges in addition to Rs 100 for wrong parking charges. In Delhi, the towing charges for the two wheelers are Rs 200 and for the four wheelers are Rs 300 but the wrong parking charges are Rs 100. As per the new model, in Chandigarh one would be paying Rs 500 for the wrong parking fine along with towing charges of scooter or motorcycle, and for cars it is Rs 600, whereas for the same offences in Delhi one would end up paying Rs 300 and 400, respectively.
Informing about these developments, the home secretary, Ram Niwas told TOI that now six new cranes would be hired by the traffic wing, and the revenue would be shared on 50-50 basis.
