CHANDIGARH: It is almost a week into the World Cup but Stumpy, the Cup mascot, is nowhere to be seen. While only a couple of toy stores are stocking the toy mascot, a majority of shops only have WC accessories.
''We introduced the toys in our store four days ago but we have sold only one Stumpy figure. We have a blue Stumpy elephant available in three sizes 'small, medium and large priced between Rs 300-1000.
Lets see how the market picks up and if children will buy the toy. We are one of the few stores across the city with this toy,'' said Amit Jain, manager of a Sector-9 store.
''We would have loved to keep the Stumpy toy and some memorabilia but there is no supply. We have
had the same problem during the Commonwealth games as there was no supply of the then mascot toy, Shera,'' said a store manager in Sector 22.
'We are stocking everything related to the World Cup. Clothes, bats, jerseys, cups and even sweaters are available. We think that people focus on cricket more during the game and would probably some commodity,'' said Anil Kumar, from a Sector-17 store. Residents of the city would like to see the memorabilia especially because the games are being played in India.
''We would love to see the World Cup memorabilia such as the mascot, Stumpy, as the Cup is being played in India. Moreover, it is a very cute mascot,'' said Ishant Singh, a student.
