The ICC World Cup fever has caught up with the youngsters in a big way with boys and girls stocking up Indian team jerseys and everything white and blue. From caps to jerseys, shorts and 1984 World Cup-style sweater, the coming weeks promise to showcase ‘cricket fashion' all over.
"The World Cup is happening in India after a long time and therefore it is the perfect occasion to dawn the jerseys of the Indian team and have a great time cheering our team," said Anurag Dhillion, a second year student of DAV College, Sector 10.
"We will be wearing the Indian jersey to show our support for the Indian team, and it also goes well with the sporting mood. On days when India will not be playing, we will be wearing white and blue" said Rohan Sharma, a Panjab University student.
For girls the mantra will be white tees and blue jeans during the sporting season. Wearing the jersey and tying the front-up in a knot is also something that the girls are keen on trying.
"Cricket is all about fun and its true we don't know much about the game, but nonetheless we want to be part of the excitement so we will probably try to wear oversized jerseys that are available in the market. We will probably try to do fun things with it like tie a knot in the front or accessorize it with a smart belt just to make it look a little more fashionable," said Alka Singh, a second year student of Government College for Girls, Sector 11.
Making a comeback this year is the 1984 World Cup style sweater. "This is the sweater that the Indian team wore when they defeated West Indies in the 1984 World Cup. It was one of the most exciting moments in Indian cricketing history and we are hoping that the same happens this year as well," said Harpreet Singh, a student.
