CHANDIGARH: A training workshop for on injection safety was conducted for district immunisation officers, medical officers and faculty members government medical colleges in Chandigarh on Thursday.
The training was conducted jointly by the Department of Health and Family Welfare and PGIMER Chandigarh.
During the workshop, health department officials expressed concern about unsafe injections, a major cause behind infections like hepatitis B (HBV) and C virus (HCV), and HIV.
Officials said unsafe injections account for 40% of HCV, 32% of HBV, and 5% of HIV infections globally, apart from causing abscesses with associated complications.
Dr Jaspal Kaur, director of Health and Family Welfare Department said that safe injection practices and use of auto disable re-use prevention syringes are the need of the hour as these go a long way in preventing blood-borne infections and advised participants to conduct training of the field staff at their respective districts.
