Workers sacked in Chandigarh: Employees intensify struggle, announce complete strike on July 9

Chandigarh: On the call of the Federation of UT Employees and Workers Chandigarh, employees of UT, MC, and other departments staged a dharna on Friday in front of the office of the social welfare department, Sector 17. This was in protest against the department sacking seven crèche workers and helpers and retiring five employees.Gopal Dutt Joshi, general secretary of the federation, said, "The officers of the social welfare department were working with a spirit of revenge against the crèche workers and helpers. First, they were merged into anganwadi, their salary was halved, and they were made to work for an honorarium, with all facilities abolished. Now, seven employees were dismissed in the name of attendance through a face authentication app."The federation warned that if the department does not cancel the dismissal done out of vengeance, then the employees of all the departments of Chandigarh will stop work and again hold a huge demonstration. A complete strike will be held on July 9.
