Haryana woman jumps from 3rd floor after ‘blackmail’ by boyfriend
CHANDIGARH: A woman allegedly jumped from the third floor of her residence in Panipat after being harassed and blackmailed by her boyfriend, police officials said. The woman has suffered multiple fractures and was admitted to hospital in critical condition for several days. She is currently bedridden and unable to walk properly.
According to a complaint lodged by the woman's brother and uncle, the accused allegedly sexually exploited her and later started blackmailing her using objectionable videos. The family alleged that the accused also demanded Rs 1crore and jewellery from the victim.
Taking serious note of the allegations, the superintendent of police (SP) transferred the probe to a DSP-rank officer. During preliminary investigation, the police reportedly found evidence indicating sexual exploitation and extortion through objectionable videos.
A zero FIR was initially registered at Pillukhera police station in Jind. Since the main incidents were linked to Panipat, the case was later transferred to city's Model Town police station for further investigation.
Panipat SP Bhupinder Singh said the investigation had reached an advanced stage. "Soon after receiving information and registration of the case on the basis of the zero FIR lodged in Jind, we constituted teams for investigation. One team collected available evidence and initiated the process of recording statements, while another started conducting raids to apprehend the accused. Since the accused has been identified, we expect to arrest him soon," he said.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused belonged to a nearby area in Panipat and developed friendly relations with the survivor. Police said he allegedly recorded her objectionable videos and later used them to blackmail her, which allegedly drove her to take the extreme step.
Without disclosing details of the survivor's identity, citing legal provisions related to protection of victims in such cases, the SP said it was a strong case and assured that the survivor would get justice.
