PATIALA: Police on Sunday arrested one of the two snatchers who allegedly had injured a middle-aged woman while snatching her purse two days ago at Sunam in Punjab's Sangrur district.
"The incident took place on Friday. The hunt to nab the other accused involved in the crime is under way," the police said.
A day later, the video of the snatching incident had also gone viral over social media.
The case was registered on the complaint of Suraj Chopra, a relative of the victim woman.
Suraj said, "The victim woman had gone shopping in Sarafa Bazar of Sunam. When the accused on their scooter was trying to snatch the purse, the victim fell down on the road causing injuries on her face and jaws".
The police identified the arrested accused as Karamjit Singh while the absconding as Jashan Singh of Janal.
The police claimed to have recovered Rs 10,000 and a Samsung mobile phone whereas the victim woman in her complaint to the police had said the purse snatched by the snatchers carried a cash amount of Rs 50,000, a Samsung mobile phone, gold earrings and silver ankle chain.
