ROPAR: To escape from the atrocities meted out by her in-laws, a newly-wed Mandeep Kaur (25), committed suicide on Sunday by hanging herself at her in-laws house in village Sameerowal near Nurpur Bedi in the district. Mandeep married Daljeet Singh, a Punjab police commando, about ten months ago. It has been learnt that her in-laws and husband used to thrash her for dowry.
On the complaint of Ranjeet Singh, father of the deceased, a case under section 304 B has been registered at police station Nurpur Bedi against Daljeet Singh, mother-in-law Tarsem Kaur, sisters-in law Baljit Kaur and Balvir Kaur and brother-in-law Gurjit Singh. All five have been arrested. For the last two-three days, the in-laws were thrashing her for dowry, a police official told. The postmortem report confirmed that the body had bruises.
