CHANDIGARH: After a massive
Additional director general of police (Law and Order), Navdeep Singh Virk said that following directives issued by the police headquarters, all the field units including Special Task Force, intensified efforts to check the crime graph by sustained action against criminal gangs which had the desired results in putting various notorious and dreaded criminals behind bars.
As a result of a comprehensive strategy, police have busted 117 dreaded criminal gangs including 3 involved in dacoity, 11 in robbery, 23 in burglary, 43 in theft and 37 others engaged in various other criminal activities in the state. As a result 633 criminal cases have been successfully worked out with the arrest of 409 gang members between January and June 2020. Apart from this, stolen properties worth Rs 346.80 lakh were also recovered from apprehended members, he added.
Referring to recovery of illegal weapons, Virk said that 625 pistols, 25 revolvers, 1296 cartridges and 37 knives have also been recovered during this period.
The additional DGP said that the state police force, is constantly making fruitful efforts to check crime rate as well as to trace and nab the notorious and other criminals.
As a result of our sustained operations, the overall crime graph is continuously witnessing a downward trend in the State. We will continue our focused operations against the hardened criminals and crime syndicates, added Virk.
