CHANDIGARH: Five years ago, Mona Khattar was desperately scouting for blood donors to save her one-year-old boy's life. "My kid was suffering from thalassemia. We were not getting any donors. We visited various blood banks and hospitals, but all they said was we should get back to them later," said the Sector 15 resident. When she exhausted all the options, the suggestion to try social media popped up.
"On the insistence of my children, I decided to take the initiative on a personal level and posted a status on Facebook asking people to donate blood of the particular group," said Mona. Within days, the response started pouring in. "To my surprise, the idea clicked. Many people were willing to help and in the end, the child's life was saved," Mona added.
