BATHINDA: After playing hide and seek with the police for over a week, Kulbir Singh Naruana was finally nabbed on Sunday along with two other gang members for allegedly firing at a police constable at the cantonment on January 10. Four weapons, including a foreign-made pistol, were recovered from their possession.
Naruana and his accomplices had allegedly tried to forcibly take possession of a house belonging to Bathinda resident
Hardeep Singh.
When Hardeep reached the cantonment police station to lodge a complaint, Naruana allegedly fired at him and the bullet hit constable Gursewak Singh at the gate of the police station. Naruana and accomplices fled after the shootout and two separate cases of trespassing and attempt to murder were registered against them.
"Police on Sunday succeeded in arresting Naruana and his accomplices Amandeep Singh from village Ubha in Mansa and Rajbir Singh from village Jai Singh Wala in Bathinda. Four pistols along with 9 cartridges, including a foreign made .30 bore pistol valued at Rs 5 lakh, were recovered from them," said Bathinda SSP Inder Mohan Singh and added that Naruana faces nearly a dozen cases of serious nature.
According to sources, one case pertains to helping a jail inmate flee from police custody.
The SSP said that efforts are being made to arrest the remaining gang members.
Notably, Naruana had joined Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) before the parliamentary elections last year in the presence of Punjab revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia.
