Visa fraud: 7 months on, cops fail to register FIR

CHANDIGARH: A city resident who was duped of Rs 20 lakh on the pretext of sending his son and nephew

abroad

by three Zirakpur-based travel agents has been running from pillar to post for the last seven months to get an

FIR

registered in the matter.

In April this year, he had filed a complaint against the three agents at the

SSP

public window, but no FIR has been lodged in the case so far and the accused are roaming free. The complainant also alleged that when he went to meet the SSP at her office, the staff did not allow him to meet her.

Parmod Kumar of Sector 20 said that Rahul Sharma, Sajan Sharma and Jarnail Singh took around Rs 20 lakh from him for sending his son and nephew to Australia on work visa, but neither were they sent abroad nor was Parmod’s money returned.

Following this, Parmod filed a complaint at the SSP public window at UT police headquarters in Sector 9. Parmod said initially it was not clear if the case fell under the jurisdiction of Sector 19 police or Sector 11 police, so he had to do several rounds of the two police stations. Later, when it was decided that the case should go to the Sector 11 police station, his complaint was sent to the legal cell for opinion. Around a month ago, Pramod came to know that legal cell had found his case genuine and the latter directed the

cops

to register an FIR of cheating against the accused men. However, no FIR has been filed in the case till now.

Moreover, Parmod said he was turned away by UT SSP Nilambari Jagadale’s staff when he went to meet her about the case at the police headquarters around three-four times.

What is the use of submitting complaints at the SSP window when no action is taken even after seven months? asked a harried Parmod, adding that the accused are roaming free and laughing at him. Once when Parmod met one of the accused at a police station, the latter told him “go where ever you want to go, nobody can help you”, said the complainant.

Parmod had made all the transactions through the bank and had enclosed all the proofs with his complaint, but to no avail.
