CHANDIGARH: Amid tight security no untoward incident was reported on

, parks and popular hangout areas witnessed fewer crowds as compared to the previous years. People were seen roaming in their vehicles decorated with heart-shaped balloons on the gehri route.

police

stations laid a total of 32 internal check posts in their respective jurisdictions from 4 pm to 10 pm to check hooliganism. Police laid special check posts at sectors 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14 15, 17, 32, 36 and outside pubs and bars.

As many as 700 cops, including three DSPs and 16 SHOs and five inspectors and traffic cops were on the road to keep a check on youngsters.

The police apprehended several people roaming on bikes and cars on the gehri route and near parks and released them after verification.

Many youngsters were seen complaining that policemen stopped movement of vehicles at the Eiffel Tower in Sector 10, near the PU gates and Sukhna Lake.

The cops had also set up barricades at sectors 10, 11, 15 and PU to restrict movement of vehicles. To keep a tab on stalkers, eve-teasers, women cops in plain clothes were deployed outside the girls PGs, Elante Mall and parks and no incident of sexual molestation was reported from any part of the city.

Last year, the cops had issued a total of 324 challans in different parts of the city. Maximum, 121 two-wheelers were issued challans, 130 four-wheelers and 28 three-wheelers were also challans in the city. The police also impounded 45 vehicles from various sectors.
