Venkaiah Naidu has constituted a search committee to appoint the new vice-chancellor of the university.
Sources said Dr Kapil Kapoor, former pro-vice-chancellor of
Jawaharlal Nehru University, could be the chairperson of the committee. However, the V-P office is yet to announce the names. As many as 169 people have applied for the post of the VC.
Top sources in the V-P office said it has also received the forms of the applicants that were lying in the registrar office of PU.
The term of vice-chancellor Prof Arun Kumar Grover gets over on July 22.
The names of A D N Bajpai , Himachal Pradesh University vice-chancellor and Tankeshwar Kumar, vice-chancellor of Guru Jambheshwar University, Hisar, among others are doing the rounds for the top post.
It is mandatory that the applicant has at least 10 years of experience as a professor in a university or in an equivalent position in a reputed research or academic administrative organization. However, no age embargo was put for the applicants. Many of the applications for the top post have been submitted from the south Indian states, besides the on-campus staff of PU.
As per the PU Act, the vice-chancellor will hold office for a term of three years which “may be extended by the chancellor for such further periods not exceeding three years at a time, as he may deem fit”.
