Chandigarh: At the time when the Chandigarh Police have failed to find any clue about the assailants behind the killing of national shooter Sukhmanpreet Singh Talwandi aka Sippy Sidhu, the pile of unsolved cases - especially those of heinous nature - is increasing. Take the mysterious killing of a SBI officer's wife, Santosh Kumari; the murder of 21-year-old Neha Ahlawat; sensational killings of Amarjeet Singh (the owner of Sham Mall), and that of a newly married consultant, Sameet Watts, in Mohali; besides a broad daylight robbery in Sector 22 - the list grows longer.
The investigation into the murder of Amarjeet - who was gunned down in May 2009 - was handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which had also failed to find any clues, and later it filed an 'untraced' report in the court concerned. Still, there are demands for transfer of investigations to central agencies like CBI in some of the unsolved cases. The relatives of Neha Ahlawat - who was found murdered at a secluded place, near a taxi stand in Sector 37 in July 2010 - have been demanding transfer of the probe to the CBI, as the UT police has been sitting clueless on it for the past five years. The investigation is pending with the local Crime Branch.
The clueless police have already filed an 'untraced' report in the local court in connection with the murder of Santosh Kumari, who was mysteriously found murdered in August 2009 at her house in SBI Colony, Sector 42. Significantly, there is also a long list of non-violent crimes - including cyber and white collar crimes - in which the accused are still at large. Sources told ToI: "About nine cases of heinous crimes, including murders, robberies, and hacking of mail IDs were pending with the local police for the past eight years."
The unsolved cyber crimes include the hacking of mail IDs of former PGI director, Dr KK Talwar; former vice-chancellor of Panjab University, KN Pathak; and director of Central Scientific Instruments Organization (CSIO), Sector 30, Dr Pawan Kapoor.
