Kurukshetra: The district police have arrested a man for allegedly cheating a farmer of several lakhs of rupees by promising to send his son to the United States. Acting on the directions of SP Nitish Agarwal, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) arrested Motiram Chaudhary, a resident of Totliya village in Rajasthan's Nagaur district. He was produced before a Kurukshetra court, which remanded him in four-day police custody.
According to police, complainant Sukhwinder Singh of Nivarsi village reported on July 22, 2024, that he wanted to send his son abroad for better prospects. Through an acquaintance, he was introduced to Sonu Singh, who claimed he could send the youth to the US via Thailand. An agreement was finalised for Rs 48 lakh, with half the amount to be paid in advance and the rest after the youth reached his destination.

Sukhwinder handed over Rs 12.5 lakh and his son's documents. On October 24, 2023, the accused arranged for the youth to travel to Cuba via Thailand, where he remained for an extended period before returning to India. When confronted, the accused again assured the family that the US plan was still intact.
On November 28, 2023, the youth was sent to Almaty via Dubai, but once again failed to reach the US and returned to India after several weeks.
When the complainant demanded a refund and the return of documents, the accused allegedly refused and even issued death threats.
Following the complaint, a case was registered at Ladwa police station under relevant sections, and subsequently transferred to the EOW for further investigation.
On February 6, 2026, an EOW team led by Inspector Naresh Kumar, and comprising ASI Vinod Kumar, head constable Sunil Kumar and constable Deepak Raj, arrested Motiram Chaudhary for allegedly duping the family of lakhs of rupees under the guise of sending their son abroad.
