: In order to bring about transparency in the financial expenditure of
Punjabi University
, higher education secretary, who is also officiating as the vice-chancellor, has ordered to upload details of expenses above Rs 1,000 on its website.
The VC had got developed a new software under which the complete information of
purchase and spending
will be uploaded. The details will include the name of department, specification of purchased item, budget head, price, quantity, amount, name of company or person to whom the money is paid, date of purchase or amount paid along with date and number of cheque by which the amount is paid.
Officiating vice-chancellor
Anurag Verma said, "The complete information about expenses being done by the university as well as the revenue from fees of students will now be uploaded on the university website. The budget of Rs 1,000 will be approved by accounts department only after the complete details are submitted for the expenses, while the remaining details about the cheque number through which the payment is made can be done after the purchase."
The VC said as the entire revenue of the university comes from students' fee and grants from the government and
UGC, the entire process of purchase and expenses should be made public. This, he said, would bring transparency.
Issuing a circular to all departments, he had ordered that any amount or demand for expenses would not be cleared by the accounts branch of the university until complete details about the expenses are uploaded on the software.
The VC had last month issued orders to get expenses crossing the amount of Rs 10,000 approved. This he did to curb the expenses and recover the financial health of Punjabi University that has been facing deficit.
