UK expands ‘Visa Fraud Se Bachein’ campaign to Haryana
Rohtak: The UK on Thursday expanded its ‘Visa Fraud Se Bachein' awareness campaign to Haryana. Launched during an event in Sonipat, the campaign aims to protect Indian nationals from the physical, financial, and emotional risks of visa fraud and irregular migration.Haryana minister of state for youth empowerment and entrepreneurship, Gaurav Gautam, and UK Home Office Acting Permanent Secretary, Simon Ridley, were present at the event. The initiative will focus on Ambala, Kaithal, Karnal, and Kurukshetra districts, in coordination with the state govt.
As part of the campaign, prospective travellers to the UK are being encouraged to verify information and stay vigilant through a dedicated WhatsApp chatbot (+91 70652 51380). UK teams will conduct outreach activities in the targeted districts to raise awareness about common visa scams.Officials cautioned people to watch out for clear warning signs of fraud, including guarantees of UK visas or jobs, no requirement for English-language tests such as IELTS, and demands for exorbitant fees.Haryana is the third state where the campaign has been rolled out after Punjab and Tamil Nadu.British High Commissioner to India Lindy Cameron said the expansion highlights the UK's commitment to ensuring access to accurate and authoritative information. "We want every applicant to know that trustworthy guidance is available and that no one should fall victim to those who exploit their aspirations," she said.British Deputy High Commissioner to Chandigarh Alba Smeriglio said tackling exploitation and irregular migration is a shared priority for the UK and India. She thanked the Haryana govt and chief minister Nayab Singh Saini for their support.Officials warned that visa fraud often leads to heavy debt and exploitation, adding that those found guilty can face a travel ban of up to 10 years to the UK.
