Two Zirakpur nightclubs lose liquor licence for a month

, The Almas and Hop Highway, have lost their liquor licenses for a month for non-compliance of governments orders of operating after 12 midnight. The discotheques came under scanner after multiple checking conducted by the local police after which repeated warnings and even FIRs were registered against the two clubs.

Mohali deputy commissioner Gurpreet Kaur Sapra said only such strict actions could deter malpractice of disco operators of non-compliance of administrative orders. She added that more nightclubs were under scanner and were likely to face similar action, she said.

The DC said that the discos have been given warnings and also fined but they did not close down the operations.

owners were booked on charges of violating orders of the district magistrate regarding non operation of discotheques after midnight till 6 am.

During a raid in August, two discotheques were found operating after midnight with main entry door locked and party at full swing in Mohali and Zirakpur. The disco owners were later booked for flouting norms. The district magistrate (DM) has ordered the closure of discos after midnight till 6 am.

Walking Street disco owners Akshay Kumar and Sajan Manajan have been booked by name by Phase 11 police said station head officer Gurpreet Singh Bains. Similarly, Hypnotic Lounge and Bar in Dhakoli in Zirakpur was also operating after midnight with entry doors locked from outside.

The excise and taxation officer in Mohali said, "We have suspended liquor licenses of the two discos on September 3 for a month. At present the suspension is temporary and if the discotheques owners do not comply to orders, then they may have to face permanent suspension of the liquor license. This is also a warning for other nightclub owners in violation of the orders."

The action came as discos, pubs, restaurants next to the highways have been operating overnight and many cases of fights and brawls have also been reported from such places. Some small time roadside eateries have also become a cause of minor brawls and unlawful activities. At present Zirakpur has six nightclubs, namely Hypnotics, Hop Highway, Almas, Junk Yard, Cyanide and The Village, while three clubs Hollywood, I don't care and The Walking Street operate from Mohali.
