Two gangsters arrested after encounter in Tarn Taran

Tarn Taran: The Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), in collaboration with Tarn Taran police, arrested two key associates of terrorist Lakhbir Singh alias Landa Harike and gangster Satnam Singh alias Satta Naushehra gang following a brief exchange of fire near Jawanda village on Friday.Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Abhimanyu Rana said that both the accused — Mehakpreet Singh, a resident of Sekhwan village in Batala, and Yuvraj Singh, a resident of Muradpura in Tarn Taran — sustained bullet injuries and were admitted to local hospitalPolice recovered two sophisticated pistols, including a 9mm Glock and a .30 calibre PX30, along with live cartridges and empty bullet shells from their possession.Preliminary investigations revealed that the two were being directed by foreign handlers to carry out targeted killings in Punjab. "With the arrest of these two operatives, the Punjab Police has averted several potential targeted killings and other major crimes in the state," said DGP Gaurav Yadav.Mehakpreet and Yuvraj were also allegedly involved in a shooting incident at a sarpanch's house in Tarn Taran. According to reports, two motorcycle-borne youth opened fire outside the residence of the Naushehra Pannuan village sarpanch on the night of March 26-27.When police teams attempted to intercept the suspects, they opened fire at the police in an attempt to flee. In response, the police returned fire in self-defence, said officials.The SSP added that Mehakpreet Singh has a criminal background. He is also wanted in a case under the Explosive Substances Act, where two hand grenades and weapons were recovered.
