Two die of contaminated water in Moga village

Two women have died and many others reported ill after consuming contaminated water in village Lopo. The unwell villagers have been hospitalized at primary health centre and some private hospitals.

MOGA: Two women have died and many others reported ill after consuming contaminated water in village Lopo. The unwell villagers have been hospitalized at primary health centre and some private hospitals. The deceased have been identified as 51-year-old Harmeet Kaur and 19-year-old Simarpreet Kaur, who died after complaining of fever and stomach problems upon consuming the contaminated water.

Simarpreet died on Friday and Harmeet on Sunday. Health department has cited the cause of deaths due to varied reasons not and not consumption contaminated water.
Senior health and water supply officials on Monday visited the village and took stock of the situation.
“The village is getting serious problems due to contamination of drinking water. Two women have died and about 40 villagers have fallen ill due to impure water”, said villager Mohan Singh.
Moga civil surgeon Dr. Subodh Gupta said the health teams on Monday visited the village and found few cases of viral fever. "The authorities are alert and are not taking any chances," he said.
