Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Administration celebrated 9th International Day of Yoga on Wednesday at Rock Garden, Phase-III. This year's theme, “Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” embraced the essence of global unity. Punjab governor and UT Administrator
Banwarilal Purohit was the chief guest, and Union minister of Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat was the guest of honour.
Anup Gupta, mayor, and other senior officers of the UT actively participated in Yoga programme on the occasion.
An assembly of approximately 1,000 participants from various walks of life gracefully engaged in a myriad of yoga postures, bringing life to the grand event.
The audience witnessed the live stream of the Prime Minister's address from the United States. Additionally, the live stream of the address by the vice president of India, highlighting the manifold benefits of yoga, further enriched the experience.
The administrator emphasized the significance of yoga, as it holds the key to better health and success. He urged everyone to adopt yoga as a way of life, highlighting that even a small investment of time in daily routines can enhance productivity and result in improved time management and stress reduction.
Shekhawat reiterated the commitment of the Central government to ensure that the benefits of yoga reach every individual.
In addition to the yoga session held at the Rock Garden, the International Yoga Day celebrations extended across the city of Chandigarh, as over 100 different locations throughout the city played host to yoga sessions, engaging a diverse range of participants.
In Panchkula, Haryana deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala graced the event as the chief guest at Parade Ground, Sector-5. Alongside thousands of participants, he actively participated in yoga asanas, promoting the benefits of yoga.

Varsha Khangwal also participated in the event. During the event, messages from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal was telecasted live. While congratulating the people on International Yoga Day, Deputy CM Dushyant Chautala said that it is a matter of pride for all of us that since 2015, continuous programmes are being organized to mark International Yoga Day. Referring to yoga day’s live telecast message of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said that at present work is being done to promote yoga even in remote areas.
850 health workers stretch, bend at PGIPGI celebrated International Day of Yoga with participation of more than 850 health care workers and their family and friends. The hybrid event was organised by PGIMER’s Yoga centre on Wednesday.
