CHANDIGARH: Ushma Goswami, who has secured the top slot in humanities in Tricity with 94.2%, aspires to be an IAS officer to serve the country and ''rid bureaucracy of corruption''. A student of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 16, Ushma is a cricket aficionado who watched all World Cup matches even during her exams.
''It is only hard work and dedication that bring success.
Since childhood, I have a dream ' to be an IAS officer. My desire grew stronger when I watched 'Rang De Basanti' and saw youngsters fighting corruption,'' she said.
Her ecstatic father, Kanti Mohan Goswami, who has a factory in Chandigarh, said, ''When my daughter had scored 86% in class X, I had asked her to opt for arts, even as her friends went for medical stream. For, I know she can clear Union Public Service Commission exams. Today, she has proved that my decision was right.''
She will now pursue BA, along with psychology honours, and prepare for UPSC exams. ''I want to clear IAS exams in my first attempt,'' said a confident Ushma.
She hopes her younger siblings will follow in her footsteps. ''I have a younger brother and a sister who, too, will study hard like me to achieve their goals,'' smiled Ushma, who loves reading books.
