Trafficker arrested with 1 kg heroin in Ambala

Ambala: Continuing with its crackdown on drug trafficking under the ‘Nasha Mukt Haryana Abhiyan', the Ambala police on Saturday claimed to have arrested a key drug trafficker and recovered 1 kg of heroin from his possession.The operation was carried out by the CIA-II unit of the Ambala police under the jurisdiction of Mahesh Nagar police station.The accused, identified as Ariman, a resident of Deha Colony, Ambala Cantonment, and currently residing at Kavita Vihar, was apprehended on Friday while he was allegedly waiting to deliver the narcotics consignment. During the search, the police recovered 1 kg of heroin from his possession, said the police. The vehicle used in the trafficking was also seized.Addressing a press conference, DSP (crime) Virender said a case had been registered against the accused under the provisions of the NDPS Act at Mahesh Nagar police station. The accused was produced before a court on Saturday and was taken on police remand to further investigate the backward and forward linkages of the drug network — tracing the source of the narcotics and identifying the intended recipients, said the DSP.The police revealed that the accused had a criminal history, with previous cases registered against him under the NDPS Act and in connection with assault-related offences.Main accused heldMeanwhile, the CIA-II unit of the Ambala police has arrested the main accused in the case related to the seizure of 708 grams of heroin. Amar Singh alias Amra, a resident of Dashmesh Nagar in the Baldev Nagar area of Ambala, was evading arrest since March 25, when Baldev Nagar police apprehended his wife with 708 grams of heroin from the Jarot road in Dashmesh Nagar locality. During interrogation, the woman had disclosed that her husband, Amar Singh alias Amra, and his associate Gurjeet were the main operators of the illegal drug trade.Police investigations revealed that multiple cases under the NDPS Act were already registered against Amar Singh across various police stations in Punjab and Haryana, indicating his deep involvement in narcotics trafficking networks.Amar Singh was produced before a competent court on Saturday, which granted the police his two-day remand.
