Mohali: In a major relief measure, the Punjab govt has announced a one-time ‘Special Mercy Chance' for students who have been unable to clear their Class 10 or Class 12 board examinations conducted by the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) since March 2010.
The decision was announced by Punjab education minister Harjot Singh Bains to mark the birth anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur during his 350th martyrdom commemorative year.
Under the scheme, all students who appeared in PSEB Class 10 or Class 12 exams from March 2010 onwards but could not pass will be eligible to apply. The provision also covers candidates who may have cleared one or more subjects but did not complete the full examination successfully.
The online registration process for the special exams will begin on April 27, 2026, while the examinations are scheduled to start from July 15, 2026. Detailed guidelines, subject-wise syllabus and the application link will be made available on the official PSEB website.
Describing the initiative as a humanitarian step, Bains said it was aimed at giving a final opportunity to those who could not complete their school education despite multiple attempts.
He said the move would help such candidates secure their board certification and improve their academic and professional prospects.
The minister added that the initiative reflects the Punjab govt's commitment to promoting education, inclusivity and social justice.
He also urged eligible candidates not to miss the opportunity and advised them to regularly check official updates and contact their respective district education offices for assistance.
