CHANDIGARH: The special court of the CBI remanded inspector Baljeet Singh and

constable

Surinder Rathi to three-day police custody in a graft case on Tuesday. However, the CBI has demanded five-day custody, but after hearing the plea from both sides, CBI judge granted only three-day custody.

During hearing of the case, CBI officials said to ascertain the role of the third suspect in the case constable Parmod, they wanted a thorough interrogation of both Baljeet and Surinder. Officials said Parmod has been on the run since both the accused were caught while accepting bribe. Opposing the demand of further remand of both the accused, defence lawyers argued that both the accused have been in CBI custody for more than 24 hours and there is no ground to take them on further remand.

The duo will be in police custody till January 31 and the accused will be produced before the CBI court again on February 1.

The CBI on Monday arrested two cops after they were allegedly caught taking a bribe of Rs 45,000 to not frame a man in a drugs case. Both the accused were booked under Section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 120 B (punishment for criminal conspiracy) of the IPC (

Indian Penal Code

). They would be produced before a local court on Tuesday.
