CHANDIGARH: Making a mockery of police assurances regarding enhanced patrolling during night hours, some miscreants managed to run away with tyres of an ASIs car, which was parked outside his residence in police colony, Sector 42.
The incident came to light when ASI Gurcharan Singh, presently attached with PP-22, noticed that his car was parked without tyres on Friday morning.
I was stunned to see my car like that, ASI Gurcharan Singh said.
Requesting anonymity, a sub-inspector from the same colony said the vehicle of a UT police personnel was deliberately targeted since thieves wanted to challenge police forces. Notably, Sector-42 police colony falls in the jurisdiction of Sector-36 police station.
Manpreet Singh, son of ASI Gurcharan Singh, said the car was parked around 11.30 pm on Thursday night. We did not hear any noise during the night, said Manpreet, under whose name the car was registered.
The incident has surely put a question mark on the functioning of police personnel, especially PCR wing that boasts of patrolling various residential colonies. On the other hand, police sources said a similar incident was reported in Sector 43.
Police have not registered a case as yet. PS-36 SHO Anokh Singh said the spot had been inspected and a case would be registered soon.
