Temperature continues to rise in Haryana and Punjab

Bathinda: Heat wave like conditions have been reported in north India, as the maximum temperatures either started rising sharply or are predicted to rise in the coming days. The maximum temperatures were recorded appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at isolated places over Haryana and Chandigarh till Saturday morning, though these were recorded near normal in Punjab. As per India Meteorological Department (IMD), there is a forecast of gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 3-5°C likely over Punjab and Haryana till April 24. The maximum temperatures were recorded over 40°C at certain places in Haryana, while in Punjab the maximum temperatures reached near 40°C. The forecast and trend of rise in the maximum temperatures are being seen to cause problems for the farmers who are reaching the grain markets in both Punjab and Haryana to sell the wheat crop. "Even with the rise in mercury, no adequate arrangements have been made for drinking water at a number of grain markets," allege the farmers putting up in the purchase centres.However, the minimum/night temperatures so far have been reported slightly below or near the normal in Punjab and Haryana. The lowest minimum temperature of 18.3°C was observed at Amritsar. Gusty winds of 52 kmph in Pathankot and 50 kmph in Faridkot districts were reported till the morning of April 18, while winds of 54 kmph were reported in Gurgaon and Jind, 44 kmph in Rohtak in Haryana and 35 kmph in Seobagh in Himachal Pradesh.
