Jind: Students of two government schools at Kharak Bhura village of Uchana assembly constituency, represented by Haryana deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala, on Friday locked the gates to protest against the transfer of teachers.
In their support, villagers burnt an effigy of state education minister Kanwar Pal Gujjar at Jalalpur Kalan village in the district.
Parents alleged that the transfer drive, implemented under the school rationalisation policy, had only reduced the strength of the teaching staff.
Ishwar, a Jalalpur Kalan resident, said the government middle school for girls was left with just the head teacher and a sanskrit teacher, while the government high school has teachers only for mathematics, sanskrit and social studies.
After the protest escalated, Block education officer Vinay Jindal reached the village to hold a meeting with the members of the school management committee and persuaded the students and villagers to end the protest, saying they had taken up the matter with the higher authorities.
A solution to the problem of shortage of teachers in the wake of transfer would be resolved soon, he said.
