Taxi driver kidnapped, found murdered in Dera Bassi
Chandigarh: A 25-year-old taxi driver, Sushil alias Sahil of Sector 20, Chandigarh, was allegedly kidnapped in broad daylight from Hallomajra and later found murdered in Dera Bassi on Friday, police said. The victim had been attacked with iron rods.His body was found near the Dera Bassi civil hospital on Friday afternoon and was shifted to the GMCH mortuary in Sector 32. Sector 31 police initially registered a case under relevant sections of the BNS against Anil, a resident of Preet Colony, Zirakpur, and his three associates, based on the statement of Vijay, a resident of Deep Complex, Hallomajra, and a relative of the victim. Police said they were conducting raids in Zirakpur and nearby areas in search of the accused.
In his complaint, Vijay Kumar, who operates a bike cab, said he had gone to Haryana with Sushil in the latter's taxi for personal work, and the two returned to Hallomajra. He said Sushil had just dropped him off near the Ravidas temple and was leaving when three to four persons intercepted him. According to Vijay, the assailants thrashed Sushil and dragged him out of his vehicle. When Vijay tried to approach him, the accused sped away with Sushil on a bike.On receiving information, Rajiv, SHO of Sector 31 police station, along with Hallomajra chowki in-charge Sunil and other personnel, reached the spot and recorded Vijay's statement.On Friday afternoon, police received information about an unclaimed body kept in the Dera Bassi hospital mortuary. Sushil's family members reached the hospital and identified him. Sources in the hospital administration said the body had been found near the hospital at night and kept in the mortuary as it had not been identified.Relatives of the deceased linked the murder to a November 2025 incident involving Anil's brother. They said Anil's brother had thrown a birthday party. Sushil did not know the group but had been invited by a mutual friend. According to them, after everyone drank heavily at the party, Preet and his friends asked Sushil to let them drive his new car. When he refused, they tried to snatch the keys. Sushil attempted to make a quick getaway, but as soon as he started the engine, Anil's brother appeared in front of the vehicle and was run over. Sushil's family said he was murdered in revenge.Police said an FIR for the accidental death of Anil's brother had been registered against Sushil at Zirakpur police station. Before police could arrest him, Anil allegedly tracked him down and killed him to avenge his brother's death. Police said raids were being conducted at various places to arrest the accused.Grieving family members said Sushil alias Sahil was engaged to be married in two months. They said his parents and sister had died, and he lived with his brother and sister-in-law in a government house in Sector 20.
