MOHALI: The department of forest and wildlife preservation has written to additional chief secretary and financial commissioner of forests and wildlife to initiate disciplinary proceedings against Indian Forest Service officer Vishal Chauhan and district forest officer (DFO) Guramanpreet Singh by chargesheeting them. They are at present lodged in jail. They were accused of corruption in the forest department.
The letter has been written by Harsh Kumar, chief conservator forests (CCF). The action has been sought after the names of the two officers cropped in forest land and trees scam following the complaint of B S Sandhu, chairman WWICS for demanding bribe.
Punjab vigilance bureau in June this year arrested DFO Mohali Gurmanpreet Singh and contractor Harmahinder Singh alias Hammi for accepting bribe of Rs 2,00,000 in lieu of favouring Davinder Singh Sandhu owner of the company, WWICS Estate Pvt. Ltd. at Masaul and Tanda viilages in Mohali for his projects.
Vigilance have registered a case against Gurmanpreet and Harmahinder Singh alias Hammi, contractor, under sections 7, 7-A of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 and Section 120-B of the IPC.
Later the name of IFS Vishal Chauhan also cropped up during the interrogation of Gurmanpreet after which Chauhan was also nominated in the FIR and subsequently arrested.
