YAMUNANAGAR
: Two seasonal rivers -- Soam
and Pathrala
-- were in spate due to heavy rainfall in the hills, from where these originate, submerging crops, besides flooding houses, in many villages of the district on Friday. The rivers witnessed rise in water levels after three weeks.
Villages under Bilaspur and Sadhaura blocks were affected by the surging rivers.
Water level of both rivers rose by four to five feet in the early hours of Friday, inundating many villages, including Panuwala, Bamnoli and Chintpur.
"Most of us were sleeping when water surrounded our village. We were not in a position monitor the condition of our fields as it was difficult to step out," said Jai Kishan, a resident of Bamnoli.
Though water started receding in the afternoon, hundreds of people in affected villages were struggling to ascertain damage to their houses and crops.
