Swacch Bharat team makes surprise visit to Ludhiana railway station

LUDHIANA: A team of Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan from Delhi visited the Ludhiana railway station on Friday early morning hours and conducted a surprise checking of the stalls and food vendors inside the station premises. The team also issued challans to the food vendors who did not comply with cleanliness norms.
Avdesh Kumar, chief material manager, said, “Since it was the first check, officials had issued a challan of Rs 500, but if the vendors do not budge, their stalls would be sealed.Yet we could not disclose the total number of challans as the checking would continue for seven to eight days.”
Speaking on the occasion, Station Superintendent, Ashok Salaria, said, “Local officials of the sanitation department always provide timely instruction to stalls owners but some do not take them seriously, and hence theye were caught caught on the wrong foot and were penalized as per norms. This team might return as numerous complaints have been made on stale food being served in the station.”
