CHANDIGARH: The revamp of the All India Congress Committee, announced on Friday has two names from Haryana - veteran Congress leader Shamsher Singh Surjewala and party's Member of Parliament from Faridabad Avtar Singh Badhana.
Party sources said senior minister in various previous Congress governments in Haryana and now a legislator Shamsher Singh Surjewala has finally found a respectable berth in the AICC as president of the All India Kisan Congress, a post at different times held by party bigwigs like Balram Jakhar and Ram Nivas Mirdha.

Badhana has been made secretary of the AICC.
The only other nominee on the AICC from this region, including Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and union territory of Chandigarh is dissident Punjab leader Jagmeet Singh Brar, who has been appointed special invitee to the powerful Congress Working Committee.
Shamsher Singh Surjewala, whose son and former Youth Congress president Randeep Singh Surjewala is the transport minister in the Bhupinder Singh Hooda government in Haryana, is the only Jat leader in the revamped AICC.

Shamsher Singh Surjewala, who for most part has held the portfolio of irrigation and power, is known to have highlighted the issue of farmers' suicides by bringing Indira Gandhi to Haryana.
As a Member of Parliament, he was instrumental in exposing a Rs 200 crore wheat scam during the I K Gujral government regime.
