‘Convoy of more than 10 vehicles not allowed’

Panchkula: District election officer (DEO) Dr Yash Garg on Thursday said it was necessary for any candidate or political party to obtain permission for vehicles for campaigning and the it is necessary to tell their details to the expenditure observer so that the same can be added to their election expenses. Apart from this, any additional vehicle can be deployed only if the candidate or his agent has informed about it well in advance to the authorities concerned . While giving details of the vehicles being used for election campaign, details of the areas and tehsils in which the vehicles will ply should also be given. Dr Garg said except for the security vehicle, a convoy of more than 10 vehicles will not be allowed. Large convoys will be broken into smaller convoys and there should be a distance of at least 100 meters between the two. The district election officer said cycle rickshaw as defined in Section 160 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, was also a vehicle that could be used for election campaign. If it is being used, the candidate will have to account for its expenditure in his election expenditure account. To ensure this, the candidate should give details of such rickshaws being used for his election campaign and if the rickshaw does not have any municipal body registration permit for its identification, the rickshaw driver may be given a permit in his personal name by the Returning Officer, which the rickshaw driver should carry with him while using that rickshaw for campaign purposes.

Candidates aides come to blows at Fbd election office

A scuffle broke out at the Ballabgarh election office when Congress candidate Parag Sharma arrived to file her nomination. Supporters of Independent candidate Sharda Rathore allegedly snatched documents from Sharma's brother, leading to a clash. Police intervened and an FIR was lodged against unidentified individuals. The case is under investigation.

Shepherd's throat cut as billhook snags on rickshaw in Rajkot

Sangram Sadmiya, aged 51, lost his life in an unusual accident involving a billhook and a passing rickshaw on Rajkot-Bhavnagar Road. While grazing livestock, the tool caught onto the vehicle, causing fatal injuries. His son filed a complaint against the driver. The incident was captured on CCTV and is currently under investigation.
