Fazilka: A 16-year-old boy was apprehended with a Pakistan-made hand grenade in Punjab's border district of Ferozepur, police said on Wednesday.
The Class XII student was stopped near Hasta Kalan village by a team from Ferozepur Sadar police station on suspicion of underage driving. During a search, the police said, the boy was found in possession of the grenade.
The case has been handed over to the state special operations cell (SSOC) of Punjab Police, after which the case was registered at the cell's police station in neighbouring Fazilka district. Inspector Satish Kumar, who is in charge of SSOC in Fazilka, said the minor appeared to have been influenced by social media content glorifying violence and gangsterism. "We are trying to find out how the handlers intended to use the grenade and where it was procured from," he said.
The accused, being a minor, has been sent to a juvenile home after being produced before a juvenile justice board.
