Stones pelted at cops as they catch goon

CHANDIGARH:

Two cops

received injuries while they were trying to catch an absconding accused as his associates started pelting

stones

at them in Ram Darbar on Sunday.

Head constable Mahavir Singh and constable Pardeep were on patrolling duty on their private motorcycle. They noticed wanted criminal Deepak, alias Deepa, riding pillion on a scooter of Anil Kumar, another accused. Both started chasing them. As Anil noticed the cops, he dropped Deepak, who was caught. Deepak shouted for help, and his associates Gaurav, Aman, Akram Khan and Anil started pelting stones on the police officials to free him. Both the cops received injuries but did not loosen their grip on Deepak. Both also arrested Akram Khan. However, other accused managed to escape before the arrival of a police party.

Police said Deepak was wanted in an attempt to murder case, for rioting and in cases under Arms Act. Akram was also involved in an attempt to murder case.

Police said seven criminal cases had been registered against Deepak, Anil, Aman and Gaurav at the Sector 31 police station.
