PANCHKULA: For the first time, SPICMACAY has decided to organise classical concerts by artistes of repute for the schools and colleges of Panchkula. Introducing their first programme for the young of the satellite town, SPICMACAY is inviting Ustad Asad Ali Khan, one of the few practising masters of the Rudra Veena (or Been) today. He represents the beenkar gharana of Jaipur.
He is also the last surviving exponent of the Khandarbani - one of the four traditional schools (banis) of dhrupad. The Rudra Veena recital of Ustad Ustad Asad Ali Khan will be organised at Bhartiya Vidya Bhawan, Sector 15, Panchkula, on Tuesday morning. Rudra Veena is among one of the finest tantri instruments of India that is on the verge of extinction. He is among a countable few exponents of this instrument, though his family tradition goes back to seven generations into the 18th century when his ancestors were royal musicians in the princely court of Jaipur. Rudra Veena is a difficult instrument to master and Ustad Asad Ali Khan is an undisputed master of this instrument, the Been. He has perfect command over its exacting technique and his virtuosity on this instrument is unparalleled. He is noted for purity of style as well as the mood of profound contemplation evoked by his music. Ustadji displays a refined and sublime spirit that he has developed through an unstinting devotion to music.
